Yury Zammit

SENIOR TRANSPORT CONSULTANT

Yury Zammit is Adi Associates’ Senior Transport Consultant. Since joining the firm as a fresh geography graduate in 2005, he has gained extensive experience in various areas and contributed to a wide range of transport studies for several major development projects. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation, and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. 

Yury has extensive experience in transportation, including authoring various assessments, green travel plans, parking studies, and traffic management plans. He supports clients in presenting trip generation and AADT estimates, traffic data, visibility sightlines, and vehicle swept paths. His roles encompass coordination, modeling, analysis, safety assessments, junction design, and survey equipment installation. Yury is highly conversant in modelling software (Junctions, TRANSYT), CAD (BricsCAD, AutoTURN, TORUS), GIS (QGIS), office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and has used his web design skills to create project websites and online surveys for data collection, such as to determine the transport modes and choices for green travel plans. He also forms an integral part of the company’s GIS team. 

Yury’s extensive project portfolio encompasses schools, industrial sites, warehouses, supermarkets, high-rise developments, residential & commercial complexes, mixed-use developments, sports facilities, car parks, roads, elderly homes, offices, and hotels. He’s led road safety audits in Malta, delved into environmental baseline reporting, noise surveys, site selection, planning application reviews, resident parking schemes, hotel eco-certification audits, and provided traffic input for air quality and noise studies. 

Since 2006, Yury has been given the task to create and maintain the company’s Environmental Management System. Over the years, he has built an EMS that since 2009 has been certified to ISO 14001.

Rachel Xuereb is a chartered environmentalist and Director of Adi Associates. After reading for a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry and a Master of Science degree in Environmental Management and Planning, she has been working in the field of environmental management with both the private sector and the public sector for over 25 years. 

Rachel boasts extensive experience in project management, environmental assessment, and environmental management and planning. Her expertise includes substantial involvement in major development projects and the development of policy and environmental legislation. She’s well-versed in European Union environmental regulations, having been a member of government-appointed working groups during the EU’s Environmental Acquis screening. Rachel excels in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and contributed to national legislation for EIA and Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). From 2003 to 2005, she represented Malta on the European Union’s EIA/SEA Expert Working Group. Her contributions span strategic environmental assessments in various areas, project coordination, and leading teams in developing of various environment strategies. 

Rachel is also trained in Environmental Management Systems and provides support during environmental due diligence and in EMAS and ISO14001 certification. She is also a certified internal auditor for the ISO14001 standard. 

Since 2001 Rachel has worked closely with the University of Malta lecturing on sustainable development and environmental management. Rachel was also a member on the Board of Directors of the Today Public Policy Institute (TPPI), an independent and impartial think-tank focusing specifically on public policies for the purpose of improving those policies or creating viable alternatives. She occasionally lectures post graduate students at the University of Malta.
