Rachel Xuereb

Director

Rachel Xuereb is a chartered environmentalist and Director of Adi Associates. After reading for a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry and a Master of Science degree in Environmental Management and Planning, she has been working in the field of environmental management with both the private sector and the public sector for over 25 years. 

Rachel boasts extensive experience in project management, environmental assessment, and environmental management and planning. Her expertise includes substantial involvement in major development projects and the development of policy and environmental legislation. She’s well-versed in European Union environmental regulations, having been a member of government-appointed working groups during the EU’s Environmental Acquis screening. Rachel excels in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and contributed to national legislation for EIA and Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). From 2003 to 2005, she represented Malta on the European Union’s EIA/SEA Expert Working Group. Her contributions span strategic environmental assessments in various areas, project coordination, and leading teams in developing of various environment strategies. 

Rachel is also trained in Environmental Management Systems and provides support during environmental due diligence and in EMAS and ISO14001 certification. She is also a certified internal auditor for the ISO14001 standard. 

Since 2001 Rachel has worked closely with the University of Malta lecturing on sustainable development and environmental management. Rachel was also a member on the Board of Directors of the Today Public Policy Institute (TPPI), an independent and impartial think-tank focusing specifically on public policies for the purpose of improving those policies or creating viable alternatives. She occasionally lectures post graduate students at the University of Malta.
