EIA for a Waste Electronics Processing Plant

The proposed facility comprises an industrial unit for the recycling and treatment of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) as well as shredding and gasification of wood. The Applicant intends to relocate, expand and upgrade his current operations from his current location in an industrial site in Zabbar to the Hal Far Industrial Estate.

Following the submission of a Project Description Statement (PDS) for the proposed development, the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA) determined that the development required an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) in accordance with Legal Notice 114 of 2007, the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2007.

The EIA assessed potential impacts related to geo-environment, landscape and visual amenity, ecology and noise. An environmental risk assessment was also included.

The EIA was presented to the public during a public hearing held in December 2015.
