Adrian Mallia

MANAGING DIRECTOR

Adrian Mallia is a chartered environmentalist, chartered biologist, and Managing Director of Adi Associates Environmental Consultants Ltd. He has over 30 years’ experience in environmental matters, including environmental planning and management. He has in-depth knowledge of Environmental Assessment, having also overseen the local EIA process for seven years; he is a Registered EIA Practitioner with the IEMA (UK). 

Adrian, an experienced project manager, led the Environmental Management Unit at the Malta Planning Authority for 6 years, overseeing areas like urban conservation, coastal planning, EIA, and more. He played significant roles in various projects at Adi Associates, including in waste management, tourism, fisheries and marine, and environmental assessments. 

Adrian has also delivered a number of international projects. In 2004, he supported St Helena Island on capacity building and environmental assessments through a UNDP Programme. His work led to the creation of the Environmental Management Directorate on St Helena, where he returned in 2011 to lead a Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment for the island’s Development Control Plan. Adrian also advised the Turkish Cypriot Community in North Cyprus on quarry management and restoration in two TAIEX missions in 2007 and 2014. He also conducted assessments in Somaliland for port refurbishment and jetty reconstruction projects in 2015 and 2016. From 2018 to 2021, he coordinated feasibility studies for fish landing sites in Hobyo, and a modern fish market in Mogadishu, Somalia, on behalf of the FAO. 

Adrian played a key role in crafting the 1998 and 2002 State of the Environment Reports for the Maltese Islands, as well as Malta’s initial and subsequent National Communications on Climate Change (submitted to the UNFCCC). Additionally, he offers local assistance to foreign auditing firms and serves as a short-term expert in evaluating EU-funded environmental projects in Malta. 

Adrian is fluent in Maltese, English, and Italian, and has some knowledge of Spanish and Portuguese.
