The Traffic Impact Statement (TIS) was prepared to support the application for the development of a Civic Amenity Site (CAS) in Ta Qali. This site is meant to provide facilities where members of the public may dispose of household bulky waste. It will also provide facilities, for farmers and hawkers to dispose of their waste. This includes bins for wood, green waste, and pesticides, and a composter. Access to the site is via the Pitkalija circular route that is currently opened only during Pitkalija days, i.e. Mondays and Thursdays. This route links to the Triq il-Pitkali / Vjal l-Istadium Nazzjonali junction from where it is possible to drive to / from Mosta, Attard or the arterial Triq l-Imdina.
The TIS considered the impact of the project on the nearby junction, as well as weekday and weekend peak hour traffic flows. Traffic counts were undertaken at this junction and an automatic traffic counter was installed on Triq il-Pitkali. A safety audit of the key junction and an analysis of vehicle swept paths were also undertaken. The TIS recommended changes to access arrangments and safety improvements. Modifications to the key junction were also proposed.
