Senior Transport Consultant
Yury Zammit, is a geographer, environmental resources manager and traffic safety / impact assessor with experience in geographic information systems (GIS), land use planning, environmental impact assessment, transport impact assessment and road safety audits, climate change and website development and maintenance. He has been working with Adi Associates Environmental Consultants Ltd since 2005 and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, and the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation.
Yury is responsible for all GIS mapping within the company, assists in EIA’s, prepares Project Description Statements, carries out Road Safety Audits, and co-ordinates the majority of data collection surveys. He has extensive experience in transport assessments and contributed to a wide range of studies for various major development projects that include schools, industrial sites, waste management facilities, mixed-use developments, high rise development, petrol stations, homes of the elderly, offices, and hotels. His roles include the coordination of data collection, data analysis, trip generation estimates, traffic junction design, modelling and analysis (using AutoTurn / PICADY / ARCADY / TRANSYT), using applying our dynamic parking model, road / pedestrian safety audits, green travel plans, and reporting. He has also experience in environmental baseline reporting for SEAs, noise surveys, land contamination studies, site selection exercises, environmental permit applications, planning applications review, resident parking schemes, and hotel eco-auditing.
Yury has a particular interest in climate change and has contributed to papers that address the impact of climate change on land use, infrastructure, human health, agriculture and fisheries. For his Masters degree, he submitted a dissertation that focused on climate change awareness and the willingness to adapt. This interest in climate change, combined with his traffic expertise, have allowed Yury to assist modelling traffic-related air emissions for EIA’s. Unfortunately, his climate change and air quality knowledge are not enough to keep his plants alive; he is our expert plant exterminator.
Since participating in the M&EMS training event in 2005 – 2006 , Yury has been given the task to create and maintain the company’s Environmental Management System. Over the years, he has built an EMS that since 2009 has been certified to ISO 14001. Thanks to the EMS, we have managed to significantly reduce our electricity and paper consumption, thereby decreasing our CO2 footprint.
Yury’s web design experience has been used to prepare websites for companies as well as for projects. He has developed online questionnaires that have been used to determine the transport modes of students and staff attending a technical college as part of a Green Transport Plan, and in the preparation of two Diving Master Plans. These skills were also used to prepare a web-based EMS Manual (rather than a paper-based one). He is also our first line of defence against any IT mishap.
Fluent in Italian and with some knowledge of French and German, Yury is a keen traveller with a passion for mountains, fortifications, and the local cuisine. He is a fanatical football fan, kicks the ball around himself, and plays the keyboard in a band.
